The goal in Sudoku is to fill the grid with the numbers 1-9. Each number can only occur once on every row, column and 9x9 square. These rules make Sudoku a challenging brain game which requires patience, practice and mastery. Sudoku is widely believed to be a beneficial game and has even been endorsed by the American Alzheimer’s Association as a brain game which may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Some researchers have also claimed that brain games such as Sudoku reduce the risk of dementia as we get older. Sudoku is shown to be beneficial in the short term too as it can bring a sense of calm and order to the player in addition to a brain workout. For these reasons and other Sudoku has enjoyed tremendous success in recent years and people of all ages and backgrounds have made it part of their daily routine.
